Aiolon is the setting of Gears of Rebellion and Gears of Rebellion: Uprising.
History[]
Aiolon is a world where mana has always been scarce. As a result of this, the nobility decided to study the machines, which required very little magic to function. Thus, Aiolon became a world dominated by technology.
Belphomet, once a regular researcher, seized power and took control of Aiolon. Belphomet's robotic forces enforced his rule which based solely on his whims, causing people to be forced to work for days on end, be put under curfew for similar lengths, and having every aspect of their lives under his control. Anyone who would violate one of Belphomet's rules would be punished by his enforcers.
During his rule, Belphomet began creating a series of androids with sentience, but when they failed to meet his expectations, he decided to destroy them. Three of the androids, Mono, Tetra, and Aenea, either managed to escape or were rescued from Belphomet, but the others were unable to survive Belphomet's testing and were destroyed. The surviving androids found other awakened robots, robots who had gained sentience and free will through chance, and formed a resistance against Belphomet.
Gears of Rebellion[]
Seeking help to overthrow Belphomet, Tetra broke into Belphomet's central tower and stole a device that allowed her to travel to other worlds. Using the device, Tetra sought out the signal of Nicola Adel, but instead found a group of otherworlders who offered to help fight Belphomet. When Tetra brought the otherworlders to Aiolon, an outside influence only brought four of them and the rest were sent to the world of Naterra. The otherworlders explored Aiolon, meeting Tetra's sisters and the resistance, learning of Belphomet's tyrannical and senseless rule, and joined the rebellion against Belphomet.
Gears of Rebellion: Uprising[]
During the rebellion, the resistance targets Belphomet's factories to cut of his supply of new enforcers. However, Belphomet sends The Furies, three robots made from the remains of the destroyed androids, to protect the factories. After a hard battle with several casualties, The Furies are defeated and the factories are destroyed, leaving Belphomet unprotected. The androids and otherworlders storm Belphomet's tower and push the tyrant to the brink of defeat. However, Belphomet calls out to the keeper Nerva of Purgation for power and Nerva grants Belphomet a new mechanical body.
Invasion of the Worldreaver[]
Using his new mechanical body, Belphomet travels to Naterra and unleashes an invasion to conquer it. The invasion ultimately fails and Belphomet takes his own life in a last act of defiance towards Nerva. With Belphomet's death, infrastructure of Aiolon is destroyed and Tetra plans to stay in Naterra, using the leftover scrap from Belphomet's failed invasion to maintain the robots and plans to build a portal to bring refugee's over from Aiolon.
