Personality[]

Amaryllis is a sweet and happy girl, although also can be naive and lack of reading the environment.

At first, her most notable trait is the absence of her own identity, a product of having always lived influenced by others, whether they were the directors of her orphanage or her friend Lilium. Verdilia notices that every one of her opinions has Lilium's influence, and probes a little deeper to understand what she truly thinks of her favorite fairy tale. Amaryllis is so dependent on Lilium that she knows little past her "role" as the Princess, and Verdilia has to encourage her extensively to reject it.

After besting Lilium herself, she's realized the true potential of her magic and become able to put herself before others.

Story[]

History[]

Amaryllis was an orphan and lived in an orphanage along other magic proficient children. They were given numbers to identify them since they had no names, with Amaryllis being given the number 329, and they were made to participate in "experiments", with those being taken never returning. Amaryllis believed that those who were taken for the experiments to a happy place.

One night, Amaryllis snuck around the orphanage and found a girl who rejected her number and named herself Lilium reading in the library normally reserved for the adults. Lillium explains she chose her name from a flower in a book and choose Amaryllis' name from the same book. The two began readings books because Lillium believed they held the secret to a happiness, an unparalleled happy ending. Every night, the two would sneak into the library and read, but Lillium found all every story they could find boring until they read the Princess and the Wyrmwitch. Amaryllis disliked the story's ending, but when she saw how captivated and delighted Lilium was with it, she lied that she liked it. Lillium compared the two of them to the Princess and the Wyrmwitch from the story, something Amaryllis agreed to unaware that she had activated the conditions for Lilium's Creation Magic and fell under her power, assuming the role of the princess in the story. Unknowingly, Amaryllis' own magic created a curse on her, making her the "cursed princess."

Despite the pain, Amaryllis played along with Lilum's fantasy, believing that if they would both be happy if she just followed Lilium. The next day, she was selected for the experiments, but her curse killed all the men experimenting on her. Lillium was delighted at the result and took her away to find her "knight" and their happily ever after. Amaryllis went with her, believing she could find happiness if she just followed Lilium.

The two made their way to Lainescrast Academy where Lilium make an alternative space within the library where Amaryllis lived immersed in the role of the princess waiting for her knight. Lilium then created the Independent Study Track in order to gain free reign over a portion of the school so Amaryllis wouldn't be expelled for absence.

Lessons from Lainecrest[]

A member of a school club, the Investigators of Mysterious Phenomena, searches for the secret library. After some examining, the girl finds the entrance to Amaryllis' room by chance. She meets Amaryllis, who believes that she is the "knight" from the story, but the girl doesn't know what she's talking about Amaryllis sends her out. The girl decides to find the rest of her club to report what she learned, but on the way, she encounters Lilium, who uses her magic to transform the girl into the dragon from the story. Lilium gives the dragon to Amaryllis as a companion and the latter senses there is something familiar about it, but Lillium denies this.

Professor Verdilia is tasked with recruiting Lyelth and Amaryllis in a special class. Verdilia discovers she has been sent to the secret library where she hears someone reading a story aloud and follows the voice until she finds the source is Amaryllis. Amaryllis realizes she mistook Virdilia for her friend Lilium and radiates a strange mana before Verdilia is suddenly expelled from the hidden library by a dragon.

Verdilia later finds Amaryllis again and formally introduces herself. Amaryllis is excited to meet Verdilia, whom she refers to as her "knight", but is quickly shown to be very ill, similar to the princess from the story. Verdilia invites Amaryllis to her class and Amaryllis eagerly accepts. However, before they can leave, Amaryllis unwillingly releases a sinister mana that hurts Verdilia. When she sees what she is doing to Verdilia, Amaryllis explains she is afflicted with a curse that hurts anyone near her and decides to stay in the secret library. She sends Verdilia out to protect her from her cursed power.

Verdilia confronts Amaryllis in her secret room and reveals she knows about Amaryllis' condition. She confirms that Amaryllis' magic shares her senses with others and causes them to feel the same pain she feels from her illness against her will. She asks Amaryllis if she knows when her illness started, but Amaryllis can't remember anything before her life in the orphanage with Lilium. While talking with Amaryllis, Verdilia discovers that she refers to herself as the character from the 'Princess and the Wyrmwitch' story. Verdilia asks Amaryllis about her opinion on the story, noting how most of her thoughts are influence by Lilium, and asks only her thoughts and no one else's. When Amaryllis is unable to answer, Verdilia voices her thoughts on the book's happy ending not being believable. Amaryllis grows upset at this and the room's dragon appears, causing Amaryllis to believe that the book's events are unfolding. Verdilia declares that they are not living in a book, but reality, and vows to show that to Amaryllis. Verdilia realizes there is some force weakening her attacks and Amaryllis pleads with her to stop fighting before she gets hurt, fearing Lillium's creation magic is unbeatable. but Verdilia remains undeterred. She tells Amaryllis she's learned that she's an avid learner with a great curiosity that can grow if she is properly taught and that she is not the "princess" and that the titles Lillum put on the two of them are actually magic restrictions. Verdilia declares she is not the knight from the story with a different past and that she is Amaryllis professor. Amaryllis is shocked when Verdilia is able to destroy the dragon and the latter declares it is time to unravel her curse.

Verdilia reveals that the fairy tail roles Lilium assign to the two of them are the root of Amaryllis' curse. The dragon was powerful, but normally it wouldn't be enough to give Virdilia so much trouble, and she realized that there was something weakening her and increasing the dragon's power. That force was her role as the knight, which was scripted to lose to the Wyrmwitch Lilium, and that her creation magic isn't what people think it is. Her magic actually works like a curse, which Verdilia realized when Amaryllis first revealed she considered herself the princess from the story. Lilium's magic uses the story as a catalyst for her magic, casting a spell each time she called her the knight, because her real magic is actually transformation. She forced her into the role of knight and prevented her from breaking character, causing her power to be restricted. The same magic was used on the secret room, the dragon, and Amaryllis, creating the curse with hurts her.

Amaryllis refuses to believe Lilium, her only and valued friend, would do that to her, but Verdilia tells her that just because Lilium is her friend doesn't mean she has to forgive her and that she doesn't have to suffer from her curse. Amaryllis' curse activates against, but Verdilia resists the pain and reaches out to Amaryllis as her teacher. She tells Amaryllis she is not living a fairy tail with a happy ending and she is not the princess, but her student who can reject her role. Amaryllis calls Verdilia by her names and it breaks her free from her forced role, ending her curse. She announces a new ending to the story where the princess rejected the Wyrmwitch and left with the knight for a life of freedom, admitting she disliked the original ending. Verdilia encourages Amaryllis that she will help her find out who she is and what her magic can do as her professor.

Lyelth is in disbelief of Amaryllis's naivety in pick up a potentially dangerous item, but Verdilia lets Amaryllis keep the doll until class ends and makes her promise to return it to its owner. After class, Amaryllis takes the doll, which she nicknames Snoozey, to find its owner, and Lyelth explains that the doll most likely came from a school facility and that she shouldn't mess around with things that could be dangerous. Amaryllis is touched by Lyelth's concern for her and explains that she wants to follow her own decisions instead of other people's from now on. Lyelth warms up to Amaryllis and offers to make sure Snoozey is safe and show her how to repair it. The idea works and Amaryllis not only protects the budding flowers but fills them with enough energy to bloom instantly. Amaryllis explains her desire to make up with Lilium and leaves to thank Lyelth for his help.

Verdilia objects to the plan, believing she should fight instead, but her students declare this battle is their responsibility. Lyelth vows to defeat his father in the courtyard while Amaryllis decides to fight Lilium and put their training to use.

Amaryllis is able to defeat Lilium's dragons to the latter's shock. Amaryllis reveals that after meeting Verdilia, she began to wonder about how the curse that shared her pain with others came from because while Lilium's magic made her play the role of the Princess, it couldn't have inflicted the curse because that wasn't part of the original story. Amaryllis realized that she inadvertently cast the curse on herself and reveals that both she and Lilium were put through the same experiments at the orphanage and gave them both the same abilities. Amaryllis reveals she has imagination magic like Liliums, except that while Lilium's magic puts others into the roles she creates, Amaryllis' magic immerses herself into one, giving her the ability to create new power for herself. The ability was activated when Amaryllis recited the new ending to the book and Amaryllis explains she wanted the courage to stand up to Lilium. Lilium breaks down and asks why Amaryllis has turned on her and Amaryllis explains she hasn't turned against her friend, but wanted to right her mistake when she first lied to her which she made out of fear Lilium would abandon her.

Lilium breaks down further, pointing out how they were both abandoned and didn't understand happiness. Amaryllis counters that they found happiness with each other and even if she had a chance to grow up with her parents instead of the orphanage, she would still choose Lilium. However, Lilium snaps and refuses to abandon her fairy tale world which she believes is the only way to be happy, even if that means replacing Amaryllis with a new Princess. Lilium summons more dragons, but Amaryllis declares that Lilium is still lying because they need each other and share the same story. Amaryllis defeats the dragons and Lilium, knocking the latter out. Just then, another massive explosion goes off and Amaryllis goes to investigate, promise to finish her story with Lilium.

As Verdilia was facing Castelle, Lyelth and Amarylis protect Verdilia, declaring that Verdilia isn't only just Castelle's sister, but also their professor. The three struggle to fight Castelle, who is angered by Lyelth and Amarylis's presence, believing they aren't worthy of Verdilia. Castelle knocks them down and declares she will be with Verdilia forever and destroy everything that gets in the way of them being together. However, Amarylis gets back up fights Castelle again, telling her that Verdilia is more than a sister or teacher. She also tells Verdilia there is a lesson she has to learn.

After the battle, Amaryllis continues to bring random creatures she finds to class as pets and has become the student council president after Lilium stepped down while also keeping Lilium in check, leaving Lyelth to deal with her escapades.
