The Arc is a mysterious artifact that is said to contain a large amount of rare and unique data originated from the Tree of Woe and the Portalcraft class. Its value has been linked to "the future of humanity." The Arc reacts to Shadowverse battles, especially high class ones.
The Arc was in the possession of Genesis Corporation who were conducting research on its data, which they used to create futuristic and unknown technology like the Shadow Area. However, Leon Aurenche sealed it away and created an "Arc Autonomous Defense System" to protect it from some unknown danger.
A little less than a year after its creation, a bug was generated within the Arc Autonomous Defense System's AI as a result of fragmented video data of unknown origin that leaked into its system. This caused the AI to develop an existential complex and become an autonomous being that called itself Arc Ruler.
Three years after Leon's disappearance, Marguerite Valois was able to overcome the seal to continue the Arc's investigation. However, the Arc was stolen from them by the Arc Ruler who, in search of an answer to his true purpose, took it beneath the deep web and began to observe humanity. To speed up his collection of human data, he used data from another world within the Arc to create the Digital Friends, in order to study how humans interacted with them.
The existence of the Arc was spread publicly in rumors that it is a special data obtained by mastering Shadowverse, that it comes from an ancient civilization, or that it contains the power to dominate the world.
Genesis Corporation and the Seven Shadows set about finding the Arc, eventually launching the Shadowverse World Ranking in order to generate the battles necessary for the Arc to react. Hiro Ryūgasaki in particular wanted to destroy it to avoid the danger it posed. The Arc begins to react during the battles in the Shadow Area, finally appearing after the battle between Light Tenryu and Hiro Ryugasaki. However, the Arc Ruler, aware of the battles in the Shadow Area, prevented the Arc from being claimed.
The Arc Ruler intended to use the power of the Arc to create a new life within the Digital World after destroying humanity with the World Tower, thus becoming a god of the new world.
After his battle with Light made the Arc Ruler change his mind, Wolfram Zerga steals the Arc and, using the power of Nexus, revives the Tree of Woe through it.
