Banish is an evergreen keyword used to describe an action that would remove a card from the game. It is represented by a dark blue portal that engulfs the card and disappears, 'banishing' it.
Description[]
Banish is mostly present in Shadowverse as the strongest form of removal available since there are very few preventive measures compared to damage or destruction, and a banished card will not generate a Shadow nor can it be recovered later through the use of Reanimate or other similar effects. Banishing is one of the few ways to negate Last Words slow down win conditions that require a certain amount/specific cards destroyed like Genesis Artifact and Chris, Beyond the Patch.
Among the available classes, Havencraft is the one most associated with this form of removal, using cards like Blackened Scripture and Redeemer's Cudgel to clear the enemy board while disrupting the opposing leader.
Banish can also interact with cards in hand, either by acting as a replacement for the 'shuffle' mechanic present in other card games or by getting rid of them completely. Examples of cards that banish from hand include Omniscient Kaiser, Cassim, the Courageous, and Mystic Ring.
Trivia[]
- Transformation effects could be considered a form of Banish, since they completely remove the card from play and there are no ways to restore the original state of a transformed card.
- Shion, Immortal Aegis and Legendary Sword Commander without its amulet are the only followers with Banish protection that are not immune to follower-based damage.
