Digital Friends, or DigiFriend for short, are the digital creature companions of Shadowverse players introduced in Shadowverse Flame.
Their true denomination is "Data of Foreigner" or DFs for short.
Background[]
DigiFriends are followers digitally manifested from the Shadowverse cards that can act as virtual pets. They are living creatures made out of data, possessing physical presence and fully interaction.
DigiFriends were created by the Arc Ruler from otherworldly data found within the Arc, in order to use them as a system to gather data on humanity through the interaction of the DFs with humans. Genesis Corporation developed the DF Research Lab in order to study DigiFriends, although they made people believe that they had been the ones who created them, stating that they are "friends that helps to connect with Shadowverse."
They all start out as low-cost Gold followers, but if a long-term friendship is maintained, they can become Legendary followers. Though they have the capacity to understand what humans say, DigiFriends are unable to speak themselves. Draconir is the only known exception due to a special modification that the Arc Ruler made on him.
DigiFriends remain linked to their owner's smartphone, being able to return to it anytime and once installed, they can't be eliminated or replaced.
Shades[]
The "Shades" are the form that the DigiFriends assume under the manipulation of the Arc Ruler. In this state they become monsters incapable of reasoning who only seek to cause destruction.
Since their data is sealed and physical interaction only temporarily shuts them down, the only way to combat them is with the Nexa System, which materialize Shadowverse cards with special molecules capable of damaging the structure of the Shades, returning them to their original form after doing enough damage. A regular DigiFriend can also do the same.
