Lilium is an antagonist in Lessons from Lainecrest and Lessons from Lainecrest: Testament. She is the student council president of the Independent Study track, but typically refers to herself as the "Wyrmwitch."

Lilium is a leader of the Dragoncraft class and will be released as an obtainable leader skin in a future update.

Personality[]

Lilium is outwardly polite, cordial, and helpful towards anyone seeking assistance- notably Verdilia. This hides a manipulative side, however: she withholds vital information regarding Amaryllis from Verdilia, and uses affection to trick Amaryllis into taking on the role of the fairytale Princess. She is a hopeless romantic who is often swept away in her own flights of fancy, insistently referring to everyone as characters or archetypes. This is also shown when she immediately becomes enchanted with a young Amaryllis, calling her "love" moments after meeting her. Like Verdilia and Cornelius, she maintains her calm even when her schemes fail, and cares little for anyone or anything outside of her "happy ending".

Her magic allows her to force anyone into roles from a story, typically The Princess and the Wyrmwitch. While they are "playing their role", they cannot deviate from the ending of the story; if Verdilia chooses to fight Lilium's Dragon "as the Knight", she cannot harm it and is easily defeated. It is implied that consent is required for this to work, though it need not be enthusiastic, as a confused agreement from a curious student of Lainecrest was enough to transform her into the Dragon. Willpower alone may be enough to counteract it, however, as Verdilia and Amaryllis free themselves by shirking their assigned roles and choosing to act as themselves.

Story[]

History[]

Lilium lived in an orphanage along other magic proficient children. They were given numbers to identify them since they had no names, and they were made to participate in "experiments", with those being taken never returning.

Lilium would regularly break the rules and read books in the library, choosing a name for herself after a character from the books. One night, she met and befriended another orphan, whom she also gave a name, Amaryllis.

The two began readings books because Lillium believed they held the secret to a happiness, an unparalleled happy ending. Every night, the two would sneak into the library and read, but Lillium found all every story they could find boring until they read the Princess and the Wyrmwitch. Amaryllis disliked the story's ending, but when she saw how captivated and delighted Lilium was with it, she lied that she liked it. Lillium compared the two of them to the Princess and the Wyrmwitch from the story, something Amaryllis agreed to unaware that she had activated the conditions for Lilium's Creation Magic and fell under her power, assuming the role of the princess in the story.

The next day, Amaryllis was selected for the experiments, but her curse killed all the men experimenting on her. Lillium was delighted at the result and took her away to find her "knight" and their happily ever after. Amaryllis went with her, believing she could find happiness if she just followed Lilium.

The two made their way to Lainescrest Academy where Lilium created an alternative space within the library where Amaryllis lived immersed in the role of the princess waiting for her knight. Lilium then created the Independent Study Track in order to gain free reign over a portion of the school so Amaryllis wouldn't be expelled for absence.

Lessons from Lainecrest[]

Verdilia finds Lilium and asks her about the secret library. Lilium explains that Amaryllis is her childhood friend who grew up in the same orphanage as her before they enrolled in Lainecrest. Verdilia recalls Lillium is responsible for negotiating the creation of the independent track and Lillium explains she hasn't left the other library since she enrolled in Lainecrest. Lainecrest was all Lillium and Amaryllis had to Lillium became the student council president to protect Amaryllis. To do that she created the independent track to gain free reign over a portion of the school so Amaryllis wouldn't be expelled for absence. Verdilia is shocked to discover Lillium doesn't have any connection with the other members of the curriculum she made, as it was only a tool to keep the professors out of her affairs. She asks Lillium why she is being so open about her secrets and Lillium reveals that she knew Verdilia was strong enough to "save" Amaryllis. She hints the way to get to Amaryllis without triggering the secret library's defenses lies in the book. Lillium gives Verdilia a copy of the book and entrusts her to get Amaryllis out of the barrier, referring to her as a "knight."

When confronted about withholding the curse, Lillium explains to Verdilia that she didn't tell her because she wouldn't believe her. Verdilia asks about Lillum's rumored creation magic and Lillium explains it can materialize anything she imagines, which is how she created the hidden library and dragon. She declares that she taking the role of the Wyrmwitch from the story and Verdilia asks Lilium what her goal is. Speaking as if she is living the story, Lillium reveals she wants a happy ending. She claims she wants to help Verdilia get Amaryllis out of the hidden library and agrees to explain the curse. Amaryllis' curse is actually her magic, which shares her senses with others, including the pain she feels from her illness. Lillium claims that Verdilia must play the part of "knight" so she and Amaryllis can have their happy ending, but Verdilia leaves to ponder the new information.

Lessons from Lainecrest: Testament[]

Lilium takes actions to fulfil her role as the Wyrmwitch and take back Amarylis the "Princess" from Verdilia the "knight" and find her happily ever after, creating more dragons to carry out her goals by destroying Cornelius and Verdilia and seizing Lainecrest as her private kingdom. Cornelius discovers Lilium has taken action and deduces Weiss is responsible for giving her the push to start her attack. He summons undead soldiers to fight Lilium's dragons and revels in the chance to battle.

After being brought to Lilium, Amarylis dismisses the dragon and confronts Lilium. Lilium believes the story of the Wyrmwitch is unfolding, but Amarylis refuses to partake in Lilium's fantasies anymore and declares she is not the Princess anymore and that she is disgusted by how Lilium is ignoring everyone's lives to the point she refuses their names. Amaryllis asks Lilium why she is doing such horrible things and Lilium answers she is searching for happiness with her and blames Verdilia for Amaryllis's change. Lilium then decides to use her power to force Amaryllis back to her role before going after Verdilia.

Amaryllis tries to talk down Lilium from fighting, but Lilium is uninterest in what she has to say and tries to control her by forcing the name Princess on her again. Amaryllis resists and refuses to fall into Lilium's desired role. However, Lilium's dragons attack instead, and Lilium continues to blame Verdilia for Amaryllis's change. Amaryllis then reveals that she lied to Lilium back at the orphanage when she said she liked the Princess and the Wyrmwitch book and apologizes. She explains that she was happy with Lilium, and she lied to stay with her, but that lie sent them down a dark path of events. Lilium goes into denial, refusing to believe Amaryllis, only for Amaryllis to point out that she's now lying about not after anything but still attacking Lainecrest. Amaryllis asks Lilium why she is attacking and Lilium answers that she wants to turn Lainecrest into her personal kingdom for Amaryllis. Amaryllis knows Lilium is still lying and reveals that Verdilia taught her that in order to defeat Lilium, she would have to understand the true Lilium and not her persona. She asks Lilium to start over with her and not live as the Princess and the Wyrmwitch, but as their real selves. A distressed Lilium lashes out with her dragons and Amaryllis recites herself made ending of their beloved book as a declaration of her freedom. Lilium realizes that Amaryllis somehow blocked her magic with her own and Amarylis reveals she has learned how to use her own magic. Amaryllis battles Lilium, declaring her name in defiance of Lilium's role.

Amaryllis is able to defeat Lilium's dragons to the latter's shock. Amaryllis reveals that after meeting Verdilia, she began to wonder about how the curse that shared her pain with others came from because while Lilium's magic made her play the role of the Princess, it couldn't have inflicted the curse because that wasn't part of the original story. Amaryllis realized that she inadvertently cast the curse on herself and reveals that both she and Lilium were put through the same experiments at the orphanage and gave them both the same abilities. Amaryllis reveals she has imagination magic like Liliums, except that while Lilium's magic puts others into the roles she creates, Amaryllis' magic immerses herself into one, giving her the ability to create new power for herself. The ability was activated when Amaryllis recited the new ending to the book and Amaryllis explains she wanted the courage to stand up to Lilium. Lilium breaks down and asks why Amaryllis has turned on her and Amaryllis explains she hasn't turned against her friend, but wanted to right her mistake when she first lied to her which she made out of fear Lilium would abandon her.

Lilium breaks down further, pointing out how they were both abandoned and didn't understand happiness. Amaryllis counters that they found happiness with each other and even if she had a chance to grow up with her parents instead of the orphanage, she would still choose Lilium. However, Lilium snaps and refuses to abandon her fairy tale world which she believes is the only way to be happy, even if that means replacing Amaryllis with a new Princess. Lilium summons more dragons, but Amaryllis declares that Lilium is still lying because they need each other and share the same story. Amaryllis defeats the dragons and Lilium, knocking the latter out. Just then, another massive explosion goes off and Amaryllis goes to investigate, promise to finish her story with Lilium.

After the battle, Amaryllis has become the student council president after Lilium stepped down while also keeping Lilium in check.
