Luca Yonazuki, known as Lusia Yonazuki in Japan, is a Bloodcraft leader in Shadowverse, a supporting character in Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle , one of the main characters of Shadowverse (2020 anime series) and a supporting character in Shadowverse Flame.

Biography (Anime)[]

His parents died in a car accident and his adoptive parents were unloving, uncaring, and greedy. Ever since his sister, Shiori Yonazuki, had fallen sick, Luca has been working towards winning the Shadowverse tournaments to earn enough money to cure Shiori's illness.

Luca meets Hiro when he goes looking for Mimori's cell phone that Luca took from Takuma, which he returns. The two then have a battle during which, Luca decides to let Hiro win to enjoy it more time seeing his potential despite being a rookie.

Luca manages to defeat the pro player, Seiya Kibakura, who invites him to participate in the National Tournament. There he has his rematch against Hiro in the same tournament finals, which Hiro manages to win after an arduous battle in which Luca expresses his cynicism about his idea of looking for fun in Shadowverse. Luca then participates in the Shadow Grand Prix seeing an opportunity to get money to help Shiori. After making it to Gold Rank, he confronts Hiro once again where Hiro tries to convince him to accept that he loves Shadowverse and that lying to himself won't help his sister.

After reaching the end of the Shadow Grand Prix, Luca along with the other protagonists become the chosen ones to save the world from the Tree of Woe. To this end, Leon sends them to the ruins of the Mythical Cards. Although Luca gets his, the card remains locked and unusable. Luca is then forced to face the Shadow-possessed Shiori in a battle. During the battle, Shiori reveals her inner feelings about her brother's overcaring that takes away his own happiness. This leads Luca to openly recognize how he have been lying to her and himself all that time, wich end up awakening his Mythical Card that he use to win the battle and save Shiori.

After fighting various Empty Shadows around the city, Luca faces Mauro in a battle in order to bring this one back to his senses. The battle is interrupted by the Empty Shadows that possess Mauro, forcing Luca and Hiro to battle him in order to save him. After winning, Luca is knocked out by the arrival of Eiji.

As the seven chosen are sucked into the Tree of Woe, Luca is sent to a dream world where he lives a happy life along a healtful Shiori. However, Asagi guides him out of his dream to the world of his Mythical Card, where he faces Urias Formonde. Upon winning and promising to bring true happiness for himself and Shiori, Luca return to the real world along his friends.

He finally joins the others to fight the Empty Shadows and later supports Hiro in his final battle with Leon.

Luca and Hiro then have another battle at the Nationals's finals.

For the next three years until Shadowverse Flame, Luca entered and won numerous competitions including the Shadowverse World Championship. This allowed him to join the ranks of the Seven Shadows, the best players in the world.

During the third day of the Shadowverse World Ranking, Luca goes out to battle with other participants as Wolfram Zerga suggested. This leads him to face Itsuki Mitsutagawa at Shadowverse College, after hearing of his victory in the Shadowverse Club Tournament. After winning and admitting that he wasn't playing seriously, Luca tells Itsuki that next time he should surpass his limits.

In a meeting prior to the battle against the World Ranking winners in the Shadow Area, Luca gives Hiro a Portalcraft deck for the first battle, telling him to save his true strength for the end. Luca then has a battle against Itsuki in which he reveals his connection with Hiro that led him to create the Seven Shadows, telling him that he hopes Itsuki can overcome his hopes and reach Hiro. Although in the end Itsuki does not manage to defeat him, Luca credits him for making him play for real and bringing him to the excitement that he had not felt in a long time. Since the number of battles was still incomplete, Luca offers one more battle, although Itsuki decides to give it to Mikado Shirogane who came to support him and hoping that a battle with Luca could help him with the dilemma he was facing. During the battle, Mikado continues to show his fragile side, using defensive moves out of fear of losing, leading Luca to become disappointed in his weakness. However, seeing him recover and win thanks to the support of Light and the rest, Luca is encouraged by seeing him go through the same thing as him in the past.

As the Arc Ruler begins its invasion of Nekome City, Hiro and Luca defend the city from the DigiFriends turned Shade monsters with the Nexa System, contacting their friends to claim the Mythical Cards. On the way, Luca and Hiro are ambushed by a horde of empowered Shades and ends up in a bad position when the Nexa System runs out of energy. However, Eiji suddenly appears and saves them with his Shadow Ignis Dragon.

Following the loss of the Mythical Cards and the Tree of Woe revived by Wolfram Zerga, Hiro and Luca reunite with their old friends and put their faith in Light.

Following the defeat of Wolfram Zerga and the disappearance of the Tree of Woe, Luca and Shiori go to live with Hiro and his grandfather.

Personality (Anime)[]

Luca is a calm and silent person, when angered or people get in his way he can be shown to be very aggressive, ruthless and cold. The only person he showed warmth to is his sister Shiori, for whom he shows great concern. However, through his rivalry and later friendship with Hiro and his bond with his other companions, Luca manages to open up more to his feelings.

At first he claims that Shadowverse is nothing more than a tool to save his sister, until Hiro and Shiori show him that he does indeed love it and that he always lied to himself because he felt that he could not allow himself to be happy while his sister did not.

In Shadowverse Flame, Luca is shown to be much kinder and more relaxed, with the weight of saving his sister already off his shoulders.

Deck[]

Luca uses a Bloodcraft Deck. His strategy revolves around Vengeance effects, which activate when his defense is 10 or less. To this end, he uses many cards that damage both himself and his opponents, while also using defense-restoring effects and Ward followers to protect himself. His best card, Dark Emperor, has immunity to damage and destruction by effects and also destroys enemy followers in Vengeance.
