Eris arrives alone in a new world and is found by Marlone, who is suspicious of her and reveals his great magic power. Eris explains she comes from another world and Marlone admits he already knew, having seen Eris teleport into the world and knowing another individual who is from another world. The two decide for trust each other for the time being and Marlone invites Eris to his guild. Eris accepts the offer and Marlone formally welcomes her to Isunia, the world she has arrived in.
Marlone brings Eris to Eschamali's temple, and she learns that despite its church like appearance, it works to maintain balance among the other guilds in Isunia. Marlone explains the five guilds rule Isunia together but have different purposes and practice. The conversation is interrupted when a water creature created by Magic Covenant's failed experiments attacks and Marlone gets injured protecting Eris and she engages the creature.
After Eris destroys the creature, she heals Marlone and he marvels at her magic. However, Eris discovers that Marlone faked his injury and realizes he wanted to observe her power as part of his duties as a marshal. Eris explains that her companions came with her to Isunia and Marlone takes her outside to begins searching for them.
While searching, Marlone explains Isunia is prosperous because of its many canals filled with magic infused water. They find Rowen and when Eris speaks with him, he discovers that he battled Nicola Adel, whom Marlone is aquainted with. Eris decides to stay with Marlone and Rowen decides to keep searching Isunia to find the rest of their group and learn more about the world, promising to send any of their companions he finds to Eris.
Eris and Marlone return to Eschamli where Marlone receives a shipment of ore to give to a friend for food. Eris decides to keep searching for her companions and Marlone promises to give her his aid.

Before the conversation can continue, two Bladeright officers named Setus and Maisha arrive. They explain that this morning, Magis Covenant ended up creating a large number of water creatures that went wild and have come to submit a report and seek compensation. When Marlone is unable to abide their request due to them not having Magis Covenant's seal, Setus grows angry at the lack of results and attacks Marlone. Eris intervenes despite Marlone's protests and battles Setus.
Before the fight can intensify, Maisha interrupts and suggests to Setus they try and get the Magis Covenant's seak again. Setus apologizes for losing his temper and leaves with Maisha. Marlone thanks Eris for her help and the two resume their previous conversation. He tells Eris that she only needs to atone for her mistakes, but Eris explains her past and how she ended up summoning Nerva, along with pushing others like her to death. She reveals it is her fault Nexus came to Aleister and froze it, but Marlone tells her to simply save as many as she has hurt and to restore her world if she wants to atone. Eris doubts the simplicity of Marlone's advice, but he continues to encourage her. Marlone parts ways with her as Eris ponders his words.
Urias is greeted by Marlone, but the attempts to interact with Urias only annoys him. Urias asks Marlone about the guilds and he explains he is the marshal of Eschamali. Marlone is then asked about others as strong Nicola Adel and Eleanor Gloria, but Urias refuses to give his reason for asking. Marlone unveils a surprising amount of power and warns he may have to intervene with Urias, prompting Urias to battle him. While fighting, Marlone explains there are few who can rival Urias's strength. Urias doesn't care about the balance and tries to continue the fight, but Marlone reveals he has even greater power, but it shortens his life. He tells Urias he refuses to fight and more and hopes he may find what he is looking for before telling him to leave; a request Urias obliges.
Eris finds Marlone who admits Urias's power is equal to Nicola's, who is so strong his lone strength can rival the other guilds. He also explains he found Nicola and prevented him from killing himself. The conversation is interrupted by another water creature that Eris battles.
After destroying the creature, Marlone thanks Eris for all the help she has given him. Eris admits she her reluctance to atone, but Marlone assures her it is hard to reach such conviction. Eris asks Marlone how he found the conviction and Marlone admits he was once a very greedy person obsessed with money. He used his great magical power to kill to get that money, but he used to much power and ended up nearly destroying himself with his own power. While he suffered in agony, Marlone realized he had inflicted the same kind of pain on others and despaired over what he had done. At that time someone marked his hands and told him to "give and liberate" leading Marlone to travel to Isunia. Eris recognizes their similarities before parting ways.
