Story[]

Backstory[]

Mistolina is the princess of Naterra, and was blessed with the ability to manipulate Aether.

Mistolina grew up distant from her father due to his many duties as the Forest King and trained in swordplay to become stronger in order to earn her father's attention. However, she could never find anyone willing to train with her because she was the princess, and was never seen as more than one.

When she heard the rumors about a monster called the Boneclaw, she went out to confront it and was delighted to discover that Ladica didn't care about her being a princess. The two fought a long battle where Ladica won in the end, but Mistolina's efforts to reach her caused the two to become friends. Mistolina encourages Ladica to become a defender with her incredible strength and told her father the truth about Ladica so she could be invited to live in the forest, the official story being that the Boneclaw was defeated by Mistolina, and the place they fought, the Beast's Grave, became their secret hangout.

Seeds of Conflict[]

Mistolina finds Erika and takes an interest in her, but before she can introduce herself, the two are attacked by a blighted spirit. After the spirit is defeated, Erika explains that she is from another world and the princess of Naterra offers to be Erika's guide.

During their journey, the two travel across a blighted area and Mistolina explains how Viridia Magna, the god of Naterra, began spreading a corrupting blight throughout the world. She continues to explains that Viridia Magna was once a nurturing deity, but descended into madness and threatens to destroy the world. She then recalls a legend that states when Viridia Magna roars for the fourth time, the world will end. Erika assumes the people of Nattera are working to stop Virida Magna, but before Mistolina can explain further, the two are attacked by a pair of troops from a group called Mánagarmr, who seek to destroy Viridia Magna. Mistolina explains that she is a part of the opposing faction, Sköll, which seeks to find a peaceful way of saving Naterra. Erika and Mistolina face off against the Mánagarmr troops.

After the troops are defeated and flee, Erika learns Mistolina is often targeted by Mánagarmr to be used as a hostage. Erika is surprised to learn that Mistolina takes care of herself instead of having a guard protect her and when she leaves to protect a Sköll member from more Mánagarmr troops. Mistolina returns and Erika questions her about the Keepers and Tetra, but Mistolina reveals that Tetra isn't from Naterra, suggesting Erika is in a different world than the one she was trying to reach. Erika is shocked to learn she ended up in a different world, but Mistolina comforts her by telling her that her allies came with her. Upon learning hints of Erika's past, Mistolina decides to challenge her to a duel in order to understand Erika better. Despite Erika's reservations about dueling a princess, she agrees at Mistolina's insistence.

After the duel, the two become impressed with the other's skills and MIstolina encourages Erika to open up, but Erika is hesitant to reveal her past. Mistolina reveals that during their duel, she picked up traces of Erika's past as an assassin with her insight. Erika admits that despite her past, she lied to the princess to enter her service, and that she nearly hurt Arisa when she tried to get Erika to open up back in Isunia. Erika believes she is beyond forgiveness, but Mistolina urges her to make amends with those she has wronged, believing she should at least attempt to redeem herself. She decides to take Mistolina's advice and make amends with Arisa, but the conversation is interrupted by Ladica who picks up Erika and takes her to meet Arisa. Mistolina hopes that she can help Erika overcome her suffering and guilt.

When Arisa asks him to make peace with Bayleon, Valdain goes into a rage and attacks her. Before he can land a killing blow, Mistolina arrives and protects her. During her search, Erika sees Mistolina battling with Valdain and intervenes. Mistonlina reveals she made Arisa flee to safety and Erika joins forces with her when Valdain attacks again. Valdain proves to be too strong as his power rots away Erika's blade. Mistolina warns Erika that anything Valdain touches withers and rots, but she is interrupted when Valdain lands a direct hit, causing her to become cursed. Enraged, Erika fights back against Valdain and reinforcements from Sköll allow her to escape to save Mistolina in order to cure Valdain's curse before it kills her.

Erika brings Mistolina to a healing spring in order to remove the curse Valdain inflicted. As Mistolina bathes in the spring, Erika thinks about how Valdain's power can cause things to wither away at a mere touch. She fears that the spring won't be enough to save Mistolina, but she is quickly proven wrong when Mistolina returns fully healed. Mistolina tries to assure Erika be explaining the same thing has happened multiple times before as she faces off against Valdain on a regular basis but this knowledge only angers Erika. Seeing how her recklessness has upset Erika, Mistolina apologizes and admits she often takes such risks, but Erika reconciles with her. However, the conversation is interrupted by the first roar of Viridia Magna, signifying her awakening, the blight's spread, and the eventual destruction of the world. Realizing that Sköll and Mánagarmr must end their feud if Naterra is to be saved, Mistolina decides to take action, but she and Erika are hindered by blighted fairies.

After destroying the blighted fairies, Mistolina admits she doesn't know a way to stop Viridia Magna should Mánagarmr be defeated. Mistolina declares that she will do what she must to protect the lives inside of Naterra and prepares to fight some Mánagarmr troops. Erika decides to find Arisa and Mistolina clears the way for her before the two part ways.

Seeds of Conflict: Harrowing[]

Erika subdues the soldiers she was fighting and encounters Mistolina again, who understands Erika's position in the war. The conversation is interrupted by an attack from a blighted spirit.

After Mistolina destroys the spirit with her ability to create Aether, Erika learns Mistolina is the only being in Naterra with that ability. Erika asks Mistolina what she will do with her power and Mistolina answers she will use it for the sake of Naterra. Mistolina senses that Erika is unsure of her own reason for fighting in the war and sends her off to find her own conviction while she stays behind to fight the Mánagarmr troops. They go their separate ways after they hear Viridia Magna's second roar and during Mistolina's battle, she overhears Rowen has allied with Mánagarmr, but is delighted at the news and believes he might be able to help stop the fighting from the other side.

After the second roar, Bayleon meets with Mistolina and asks him what he is fighting for. Though Bayleon refuses to give an answer, Mistolina encourages him to fight for what he believes. Bayleon leaves to face Valdain while Mistolina begins healing the defeated Mánagarmr troops so they won't die as she hopes her family will be safe.

As Mistolina keeps healing Mánagarmr troops, she is found by Djeana and angered by her nonchalance towards the situation, attacks her. During Mistolina and Djeana's fight, they hear the third roar. Meowskers arrives and calls off the fight, revealing Valdain was defeated and has ordered the end of the war. Recognizing that Bayleon and the otherworlders are responsible, Mistolina leaves to go help them however she can.

As Erika and Arisa find the corrupted Viridia Magna surrounded by an energy barrier, Mistolina arrives and reveals that ordinary weapons can't break the barrier, but her ability to create aether can break it. She asks the two to protect her while she gathers the aether needed to break the barrier. Mistolina finishes gathering aether and uses it to destroy the barrier, though the strain exhausts her.

Invasion of the Worldreaver[]

Erika and Mistolina struggle to destroy the mechanical vines and wonder what their purpose is and what Belphomet's plan is. Meowskers arrives and relays Valdain's information about the vine's weak point. With this knowledge, Erika and Mistolina launch another wave of attacks on the vines.

The two are able to subdue the vines and Mistolina reveals that Erika and Arisa were given a gift of aether from Viridia Magna. She admits that her own reserves are still depleted and sends Erika to find Arisa while she stays behind to fend off the vines.

Seeds of Conflict: Sowing[]

Mistolina finds Ladica at the Beast's Grave where the latter admits she doesn't know how Tetra and her sisters feel about her. In that moment, Tetra and her sisters find the two and explains they were concerned about Ladica's well-being, declaring they are friends, to Ladica's joy. Mistolina offers Tetra and her sisters to join them in stargazing and Ladica realizes she has found true friends.
