Nexus of Serenity is a Keeper and one of the main antagonists of Shadowverse.

Nexus is a leader of the Portalcraft class. Currently, her leader skin is the only one that can be obtained through Story Mode, specifically by completing part 12 of The Morning Star: Conclusion.

Personality[]

Fleau spoiler wink "Now now, how would you like to end?"

Nexus has very formal speaking patterns, regularly using archaic words and phrases: "thou", "ye", "hither", and so on. When she is injured or her plans are foiled, she will often begin to speak in a stilted, halting manner and repeat certain phrases such as "Take heed", much like a machine that is "malfunctioning". She seems to have no regard towards the emotions of others, and is instead very focused on her own and bringing "harmony" to all dimensions. She apparently believes the Keepers' will to be the natural order of the universe, even referring to herself as an "instrument" and claiming keepers do not need free will- in accordance with Yuwan's claim that the keepers believe their ways are the only ways. She does, however, sometimes appear to enjoy her work to an extent, laughing or gloating to her enemies.

After being resurrected with the power of Fury, she demonstrates strong emotion for arguably the first time, speaking with more frustration towards her enemies and claiming her old self is dead. She outright states she hates Fleauesse, and wishes to see her and her children suffer as revenge for her defeat.

Story[]

Nexus is a Keeper with the power to "paralyze" worlds by plunging them into eternal sleep. She was inadvertently summoned into Aleister by Eris Anthule, emerging through a portal known as the Morning Star. After sending her Shades to invade the world and take Losaria to be her Vessel, she plunges everyone in that world into a dream of serenity.

Dream World[]

Nexus entrusts Eris to be the guardian of dreams, guarding all whom she keeps trapped in her daydreams. However, six individuals reject Nexus' seemingly perfect dream and return to reality, leading Eris to see the error in that false salvation.

The Morning Star Conclusion[]

After a series of hard battles, the chosen ones, reunite in the center of the Morning Star, and with the help of a new ally called Yuwan, battle with Nexus. Calling out to Losaria to come back and swearing to defeat Nexus for their world, the chosen ones defeat her, only to have Nexus escape through a dimensional portal and leave the rest of the world frozen.

Fate's Trigger[]

After Nerva muses about the state of Rivayle, Nexus briefly awakens from her rest to speak with her. Nerva asks if Nexus will sleep again, and Nexus says that she is biding her time, as her target world (the world housing the Kingdom of Aleister) has protectors. Nexus questions Nerva's actions, calling her out on allowing her sadism to distract from her work. The two argue, with Nerva claiming the Keepers can do as they wish due to being above mortals. Nexus says that "thy words are poison to us", to which Nerva replies "to thou". Nexus, incensed, says that Keepers "need no wills of [their] own" before disappearing. Nerva dismisses her words, retorting "Nor do they need reason, justification" and continuing to taunt the people of Rivayle.

Entropy's Abyss[]

When Fleauesse watch the unending cycle of Vellsar, seeing them only as world doomed to tragedy, she speaks with Nexus, who reveals Fleauesse is the former vessel of a Keeper who is putting the world through an ever-repeating cycle, and reveals the cycle is meant to keep Nexus at bay. She declares that the world is under her control and that Nexus cannot interfere without her will.

The Final Loop[]

Nexus arrives in Rivayle after Fleauesse's time loop is broken and it is revealed that the latter created the time loop so Rivayle would be able to survive her arrival. Through the efforts of Bunny, Baron, Aluzard, and Arisa, Nexus is defeated and her possession of Lorisa is broken. In the aftermath of the battle, Nerva absorbs the remnants of Nexus to increase her own power.

Whispers of Purgation: Last Words[]

Nexus is revived by Nerva along with Maisha, Belphometh and Taketsumi, to become servants of the Keeper of Purgation. Nexus is given the power of Fury and is sent to destroy Rivayle again.

Expecting her arrival, Nahtnaught and Vincent along with Arisa fights Nexus together. Although the power of the three proves to be more than enough to defeat Nexus, she uses her new power to turn back time every time they defeat her. Thus, after hundreds of defeats, Nexus adjust her tactics enough to trap the three in one of her dreams. However, Nexus is exhausted of almost all of her power, being forced to retreat into the void to regain her strength.

After returning, Nexus is confronted this time by Baron, Bunny, Maiser and Selena, who had inherited the power of the Titans of Order and Force. Although Nexus once again uses her power to turn back time, Illganeau along with Iceschillendrig empowered with the power of the three Titans, prevent her from continuing to do so. The five are finally able to destroy Nexus for good.

Card Appearances[]

Anime[]

In the anime series, Nexus is summoned to Earth by the Tree of Woe and takes Asagi, Hiro's mother, as her vessel. Eiji assures the containment of the Tree of Woe, ended trapped in another world.

When Eiji lost all hope while searching for his wife, in his last moments, Nexus appeared in front of him in Asagi's body, telling him that he could win back Asagi by helping to bring eternal sleep to his world. Thus, Eiji has aligned himself with the Tree of Woe in hopes of saving his wife.

When the Tree of Woe reappears on Earth, Asagi and Nexus remains sleep in the core of it. However, Leon absorbs both of them inside his body, acquiring Nexus's power for himself.

Following Leon's defeat and the Tree of Woe's demise, Nexus survived due to the absence of the eighth Mythical Card belonging to Portalcraft. Nexus then found her way to a new vessel, Wolfram Zerga, whom she saw as a perfect candidate given his talent in Shadowverse and his dissatisfaction with the world. However, the power of Nexus was diminished, allowing Wolfram to avoid being controlled by her.

Over the next three years, Wolfram would work from the shadows to revive the Tree of Woe through the Arc and bring about the "equality and fairness" he had always sought.

When Wolfram is defeated by Light Tenryu and his friends, the remains of Nexus are finally destroyed once and for all.

Trivia[]

  • The Nexus who appears in the first season of the anime may not be the same Nexus from Story Mode, as many things do not align that would allow them to be the same.
    • Nexus not currently having Losaria as a Vessel and needing Asagi Ryūgasaki suggests the anime could take place prior to the events of The Morning Star, however, spirits that take the form of the seven heroes of Aleister guard the Mythical Cards. This means Nexus must have encountered Arisa and her allies before this point.
    • The events of the anime cannot take place anytime between The Morning Star and The Final Loop, as during this time, Losaria was serving as Nexus's Vessel.
    • The events of the anime also cannot take place after The Final Loop, as Nexus herself effectively ceases to exist due to being absorbed by Nerva.
