1. Welcome to Paradise[]
The Empyrean Inn is a paradise hotel where its guests enjoy the finest luxuries. Not an hour passes without an event of any kind takes place and banquets and entertainments are available for every guest. Only happy memories are ever made in Ametuschi, the Empyrean Inn.
2. The Empyrean Inn[]
A werewolf pup named Itsurugi awakens in Ametuschi and is found by a man named Taketsumi, who offers to show him around the inn. Taketsumi explains the inn is a luxury resort full of activities and food, all for free.
3. A Whole New World[]
Itsurugi drags Taketsumi around the inn, but Taketsumi passes him off to Kunitsu Amechi, the innkeeper of Ametuschi, to look after Itsurugi when he has to attend other business. Kunitsu explains that the entire world of Ametuschi is an inn where guests can stay and enjoy themselves by losing the memories that trouble them. Itsurugi explains he didn't mean to come to Ametsuchi, but Kunitsu assures him that everyone who comes to the inn is invited. He encourages Itsurugi to explore to his heart's content but warns him of two rules at the inn; do not enter the part of the inn called Weaver's Hall and do not incur the wrath of the Great Spider, the deity of Ametsuchi. After Kunitsu finishes explaining the inn to Itsurugi, Taketsumi returns and offers to take the latter to the Performance Plaza because a welcoming party is being held for him.
4. Welcoming Battles[]
Taketsumi and Itsurugi reach the Performance Plaza where Itsurugi decides to put on a performance. Itsurugi shows off his powerful senses and agility, impressing Taketsumi. The party is interrupted when Kunitsu asks Taketsumi to deal with a Sootspawn that has appeared in the inn. Taketsumi declares a hunting party is started and invites the crowd to join him. Saito, a member of the inn's concierge, informs Itsurugi that hunting parties are spectacles where Taketsumi shows off his strength.
5. The Aconite Paladin[]
While taking Itsurugi to see Taketsumi's hunting party, Saito explains that Taketsumi wishes for everyone to have the greatest time possible at the inn. When they reach the hunting party, Itsurugi sees Taketsumi battle a giant spider creature called a Sootspawn, the pests of the inn. Saito explains that when Sootspawn attack, Taketsumi defeats it and turns what normally be a frightening attack into a spectacle spectators of the inn can enjoy, a feat which earned him the nickname, "the Aconite Paladin." After Taketsumi defeats the Sootspawn, he destroys a crystal that came from it. Itsurugi is amazed by Taketsumi's strength and asks him to take him as an apprentice so he can make everyone in the inn happy. Taketsumi is won over by Itsurugi's eagerness and accepts his offer.
6. Sunshine Days[]
Itsurugi spends his days in the inn with Taketsumi helping to make everyone happy and helping to defend against Sootspawn. While performing his duties one day, he runs into a scared girl being chased by someone. He helps the girl hide to escape her pursuer, only to discover it is an angered Saito and directs him away from the girl. Itsurugi asks the girl why Saito was after her and she explains that Saito is keeping her in the inn against her will and hunting her and others like her. The girl leaves and a confused Itsurugi reluctantly returns to his duties.
7. Exit from Paradise[]
Itsurugi returns to Taketsumi, but the latter senses something is bothering the former. Itsurugi vaguely explains his conflicted feelings about further helping the girl he met and Taketsumi encourages him to follow his feelings. Itsurugi asks around the inn about Saito and learns the only time he has been seen angry is when he is dealing with the Forsaken, guests that cause trouble for the rest of the inn by trying to recover their memories that were taken when they came to the inn, an act that angers the Great Spider. Itsurugi is confused, as Kunitsu once told him that he is the second person to enter the inn without having their memory taken and wonders why the girl would want her bad memories back. He follows her scent to Weaver's Hall and when he hears the girl scream, he breaks the rule forbidding entry and enters it to save her. He finds the girl being attacked by a Sootspawn. The two team up to fight the Sootspawn.
With Itsurugi's training and the girl's help, the Sootspawn is defeated. The girl introduces herself as Anisage and retrieves a crystal from the Sootspawn and explains they are the memories taken from those who enter Ametsuchi and are contained inside Sootspawn. Anisage is unable to retrieve her memory from the crystal at the moment and asks Itsurugi why he helped her if she is a Forsaken. Itsurugi answers that he was just doing the right thing and Anisage leaves after explaining all the Forsaken want is to return to their homes and loved ones.
8. A Wolf Among Dragons[]
Itsurugi returns to the inn and tries to think of a way for the Forsaken and the other guests to become friends. While thinking out loud for ways to do so, but he is overheard by a Dragonling, and member of the concierge named Mizuchi. When Itsurugi explains he wants to help the Forsaken and guests get along, Mizuchi attacks him for breaking the inn's rules. She captures him with her power over water, but before she can kill Itsurugi, another Dragonling named Si Long interrupts her and frees Itsurugi. Si Long threatens Itsurugi to leave and he flees.
9. A Waking Nightmare[]
After escaping Mizuchi, Itsurugi wonders why she attacked him. Suddenly, he is captured by some of the other guests and Kunitsu for breaking the rules of the inn by asking about lost memories, sneaking into Weaver's Hall, and interacting with the Forsaken. However, Kunitsu senses the Great Spider has been angered and leaves to deal with it, giving Itsurugi the chance to escape. The Great Spider's anger causes the entire inn to shake, and the guests blame Itsurugi for it. Saito finds Itsurugi and despite knowing he never meant any harm, prepares to punish him for his actions.
10. Ametsuchi's Most Wanted[]
Saito prevents Itsurugi from fleeing by placing wards that seal the room and tries to kill him. Saito reveals he had obtained most of his taken memories, but discovered they were so horrible he stopped hunting for them and joined the concierge to prevent the same from happening to others and endangering Ametsuchi. He tells Itsurugi to die so the Great Spider will be calmed and Ametsuchi can return to being a paradise and Itsurugi reveals never lost his memories and back at his home, he was chosen to be sent away. Taketsumi arrives and declares he will not let Saito hurt Itsurugi.
11. Brothers[]
Taketsumi takes Itsurugi to the Spider's Cataract, a sealed rift that is the exit of Ametsuchi. However, Taketsumi reveals the more people who pass through it, the wider the rift gets, and it is close to turning into a vortex that would destroy Ametsuchi. In the past, people passing through the gate nearly caused it to destroy all of Ametsuchi, but the Great Spider sealed the rift and placed guardians to protect it, the Sootspawn. The Sootspawn were created to keep people away from the rift and were made with memory shards, any that go rogue are destroyed and reset with a new memory shard to guard the rift. Itsurugi's actions threatened to open the rift and erase Ametsuchi, that is why his actions were deemed a great crime. Taketsumi suddenly prepares to attack Itsurugi in order to protect Ametsuchi. Itsurugi asks Taketsumi if he truly wants to kill him before the two fight.
As he battles Taketsumi, Itsurugi remembers being taken in by a small village. Despite being mistreated by the villagers, Itsurugi was just happy to be alive. He did whatever the villagers told him to stay in their good graces. However, Itsurugi realized he was never happy, because he had nothing to truly care about. One day, Itsurugi was invited to a festival in his honor, but was set up in a rigged lottery where he discovered the whole reason he was taken in was to be sold off to secure the village's future. He was secretly poisoned to be made unconscious and awoke in Ametsuchi. Itsurugi fights back against Taketsumi, declaring he wants to live and see all the world has to offer and that Taketsumi does not have the right to decide for him. Taketsumi decides to try and negotiate with the Great Spider to stop its rampage instead of killing Itsurugi, answering Itsurugi's previous question that he didn't want to kill him. Taketsumi and Itsurugi reconcile, but it is interrupted when Itsurugi senses a memory shard belonging to him, a memory he didn't know he lost, and runs after it against Taketsumi's pleas.
12. Curiosity[]
Propelled by an insatiable urge, Itsurugi finds the Sootspawn with his memories and battles it.
Itsurugi manages defeat the Sootspawn by striking its weak spots and retrieving the memory shard. Taketsumi finds Itsurugi and begs him not to touch the shard, but Itsurugi is unwilling to turn away from the memory in front of him and touches it.
13. Parting of Ways[]
After Itsurugi sees his memory, he runs back to the Spider's Catarct declaring everything has been one big lie. When Taketsumi catches up to him, Itsurugi tells he knows Taketsumi knew about the lies he told that were hidden in the recovered memories. Taketsumi defends himself claiming they were memories best left forgotten and the two fight once again. Despite improving greatly, Itsurugi is defeated by Taketsumi and seemingly killed by accident. A grieving Taketsumi blames memories for what happened to Itsurugi, calling them a poison, and goes after the Great Spider. After Taketsumi leaves, Itsurugi awakens and desperately clings to life.
