Wolfram Zerga is a major character and the final antagonist in Shadowverse Flame.
Biography[]
He is the founder of Shadowverse College and one of the Seven Shadows.
Wolfram was born into a wealthy family in London, ignorant of the outside world during his childhood, until one day he ventured into the slums where he met a young man named Harry Smith, who was the complete opposite of him, poor, with no education or family. Despite this, the young man was kind enough to hide him from a criminal to whom he owed money. Wolfram wanted to help him in his situation by teaching him Shadowverse so that he could fulfill his dream of winning a tournament, however, Harry died in a fire before he could even try. This led Wolfram to see how "unfair and unequal" the world really was, so he decided to leave his home and wander the world in search of "justice and equality", in the process gaining fame as a Shadowverse player and winning the Shadowverse World Cup in honor to Harry. However, his travels only confirmed his beliefs.
It was there that Wolfram was approached by Nexus, who made him her vessel. However, since Nexus was weak, Wolfram was able to avoid being controlled by her and instead harness her power for his own purposes of creating equality in the world.
He helped the seven chosen ones seal the Mythical Cards in his school for protection, but it is later revealed that this was a trap so he could destroy the cards and prevent them from stopping Nexus a second time.
Seeking to revive the Tree of Woe, Wolfram decided that this time the eighth chosen by the Mythical Cards, Light Tenryu, would have the right that was denied to him to fight to stop it. So, Wolfram suddenly appeared in front of Light Tenryu and persuaded him to join Shadowverse College, entrusting him with a deck containing Draconir. He told him that "he had been chosen" and that he would meet his fate there.
At some point he gives Mikado Shirogane a data box containing a fragment of Draconir's memories, telling him it was "a fragment of Light's fate". In a meeting prior to the Shadowverse Club Tournament, Mikado asks about his interest in Light to which Wolfram says that fairness and equality are what he values most. He says the same thing to Marguerite Valois after reaching terms with her for taking Draconir's data without consent and renting Genesis Island.
On the second day of the Shadowverse World Ranking, Wolfram approaches Ryoga Jasei in order to convince him to join the competition. He then battles him in order to show him how unmotivated he really is.
Wolfram and the rest of the Seven Shadows remain attentive to what happens during the rest of the competition. After finally welcoming the eight winners to the Shadow Area, informing them that they will conduct a trial by facing them, Wolfram is challenged once more by Ryoga in the third battle. Despite acknowledging Ryoga's strength, Wolfram tells him that he lacks the self-awareness to place a value on his strength. Wolfram is ultimately disappointed that Ryoga didn't take the fair chance he gave him, determining that their battle was pointless after nearly defeating him. However, when the newly found bond between Ryoga and Demonium allows the latter to become Demonium, Crush Devil, Wolfram rectifies his vision.
When the Arc Ruler begins its invasion of Nekome City, Wolfram and the rest of the Seven Shadows are sent to defend the city from the DigiFriends turned into Shade monsters with the Nexa System. However, in the midst of this, Wolfram disappears from the radar and detonates bombs in Shadowverse College to destroy the Mythical Cards.
He suddenly appears after the battle between Light and the Arc Ruler, stealing the Arc and through it reviving the Tree of Woe. Wolfram then determines that Light, the chosen one, will face him in a battle to "rewrite fate" by deciding whether the world will fall into a dream that he will rightfully control.
While battling Light, Wolfram reveals to him that he should have been chosen by the eighth Mythical Card three years ago, but that this did not happen due to Leon Aurenche's intervention with said card. Therefore, Wolfram appointed him as the representative of humanity on that occasion. However, Light soon finds himself without the resolve to save the world despite the support of his Mythical Card, which leads Wolfram to become enraged when he sees that he did not become the "Chosen One" that he expected. Thus, although he summon the Omens, Wolfram defeats Light with the power of the Four Knights, sentencing the end of the world. Although Light tries to ask for another battle, Wolfram states that he will not have another chance as in their previous conflicts. Arc Ruler saves Light and Draconir from being eliminated by Wolfram and he simply walks away, preferring to wait for the end of the world to come.
While waiting inside a palace in Nexus's dimension, Wolfram is confronted by Light once more. Although Wolfram initially denies him the right to another battle, he soon sees that with Nexus' power nearly depleted, he would be unable to reset the world if he continued using it, and is forced to turn to Shadowverse. However, he warns Light that if he defeats him and leaves him without the protection of his Mythical Card, he could kill him for good. As they battle, Wolfram eventually reveals that after destroying the world, he plans to absorb the life energy of all living beings within the Tree of Woe in order to turn them into beings of mental energy without bodies or individuality, that he can control with the power of Nexus, thus turning humanity into an "equal" existence. Light however expresses that differences are what make people truly connect and that the right world is one where one can be whoever they truly are, all of this only arousing Wolfram's fury further.
When Light finally wins thanks to Proof of Truth summoning not only the DigiFriends but also his friends thanks to the bond they share with their cards, Wolfram understands that his wish was never "fairness and equality", but to smile with the person he cared about. Thus, when Nexus' dimension falls apart, Light decides to go save him despite everything he did.
Wolfram leaves the Seven Shadows and decides to return to his family until he finds a way to right his wrongs. There, to his immense surprise and joy, Harry Smith turns out to be alive and the two finally fulfill their promise of a battle.
Personality[]
He is fair, knight-like, and proud. He has a misterious way of acting, leading many to doubt his intentions. His motto is "fairness and equality above all", something he reflects in everything he does. In such, he believes that everyone must have the same opportunities, and hates that people waste their potential.
Following the loss of the only person he ever truly formed a connection with, Wolfram developed a deep hatred for the inequality in the world, blaming it for his loss and for all people' suffering. This absolutist mindset dominates his every action. Even with the Tree of Woe's power at hand to remake the world to his liking, Wolfram decided to give Light Tenryu the chance to stop him because of the "injustice" of him not fulfilling his destiny during Nexus' first coming.
Despite maintaining a calm and controlled attitude at all times, Wolfram is capable of being carried away by rage, as seen when Light defies all of his expectations. Light notes that this is due to Wolfram's childish attitude and his purpose of doing good for humanity is just an excuse to impose his desires on others, since time for him stopped with the death of Harry Smith.
Deck[]
Wolfram uses a Swordcraft deck. His play focuses on his three ace cards, which trigger effects if they are revealed while in his hand, allowing him to make use of them even without playing them. Many of his cards trigger effects by revealing cards in his hand, allowing him to easily combine them.
With the power of Nexus, his deck gains the cards of the four Knights as well as the Blademasters that in combination allow for an OTK. If this fails, their Last Words give him access to the Judgment Deck, with powerful cards like Gilteral, Ruler of the Seven Sins and Jamioral, Commander of the Seven Planets.
